The 3 Essential Components Of A Successful Business Affiliate Program.
Make no mistake, affiliate marketing can be hugely profitable whether you are an affiliate or a merchant. As a merchant, a business affiliate program can transform your sales and, for affiliates, it can provide a steady stream of products and services complete with readymade marketing materials for no outlay.
Affiliate programs are so powerful because they create a network of linked websites. So, whether you run a small website containing local listings, or you sell other people's products and services; whether you have your own products and services, or you're a large corporate enterprise with a substantial marketing budget, a business affiliate program can increase your marketing reach on the internet far more effectively than any other marketing method.
All you have to do is locate your own place in the affiliate mix and join the network at an appropriate point. But how?
Well, it may sound obvious, but the cardinal rule is to ensure that all three parties involved, i.e. the merchant, the affiliate and the customer, actually benefit from the business affiliate program on offer. If any party to this process fails to get out of the relationship what they can reasonably expect from it, then the whole enterprise will fail.
Let's look at the relationship between each of these parties:
The Merchant.
If you have a product or service to sell, your own business affiliate program can open up the possibility of finding an army of affiliates to promote your goods. But the incentives have to be right. Your affiliates need to feel valued and motivated to work on your behalf. If they don't, your sales will barely increase and you run the risk of harming your reputation. So make sure your goods and services provide excellent value for money and preferably 'over deliver' on the promises you make for them. Reward your affiliates well. Provide them with lots of marketing materials and ensure they are paid at least 50% or more, for each sale they make.
The Affiliate.
If you are searching for a generous business affiliate program, do your homework. When you find a product or service that complements your other business activities, check on its quality. Make sure it does what it claims to do. If it doesn't, your subscribers will complain and will ignore your recommendations in the future.
There's nothing wrong with looking for a program that pays well, but try to find those that also provide you with information about their products and services, as well as other marketing materials like banner ads., content for your email newsletter and so on.
Keep your subscribers informed. Don't try to hit them for a sale every time you contact them. Provide them with lots of other, free information. Build a relationship with them. It will pay off in the long run.
The Visitor/Customer.
The people who visit the website, many of whom it is hoped will become customers, often get ignored in the discussions on business affiliate programs! Strange when you consider how critically important their experience is in the network of linked websites that make up affiliate marketing. If the visitor is not satisfied at any stage in the process, the whole affiliate network breaks down and sales figures plummet.
The customer wants (i) relevant information, (ii) to purchase good quality products and services, (iii) to be able to navigate through the process as quickly and easily as possible, (iv) to get hold of the purchased goods and services FAST.
So, for both the merchant and the affiliate, the challenge is to provide a compelling experience for visitors. Merchants and affiliates need to build partnerships aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of the business affiliate program. Most important in this equation is the help provided by the merchant to the affiliate in the form of relevant content and other marketing materials, as well as advice on how best to use them.
If the marketing mix between merchant and affiliate is a good one, there will be more visitors to the network of links and websites provided, more visitors will become paying customers and the business affiliate program will begin to produce the kinds of financial rewards that internet fortunes are made of, despite the recession.
